Race Rules

The EDP Lisbon Marathon will take place on Saturday, 9 October 2027, starting in Carcavelos. On Sunday, 10 October 2027, the Half Marathon and Mini Marathon (EDP 8K) will start from the Vasco da Gama Bridge in Lisbon. The Marathon and Half Marathon distances are official and approved by the Portuguese Athletics Federation and AIMS. The events will be organised in accordance with international road-running rules (World Athletics) and applicable national requirements, by Maratona Clube de Portugal, with the support of Lusoponte and the Lisbon metropolitan area.

The Marathon starts in Carcavelos at 8:00 a.m. The finish line will be at Praça do Comércio.

The Half Marathon and Mini Marathon start from the Vasco da Gama Bridge at 10:30 a.m. The Half Marathon finishes at Praça do Comércio (Terreiro do Paço), while the Mini Marathon finishes at Parque das Nações, near the Expo area.

The Marathon and Half Marathon are open to athletes aged 18 or over on race day. Age categories will be classified separately in accordance with the Portuguese Athletics Federation (Federação Portuguesa de Atletismo — FPA). The Mini Marathon is not ranked, as it is a non-competitive, free-pace event. Checks may be carried out during the race to ensure compliance with the rules. Participants compete at their own responsibility.

Each prospective participant must complete the official online registration form or an alternative form where provided. Completing the form and paying the entry fee constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions. Groups may request an Excel registration sheet to submit their participant list and arrange payment by bank transfer.

A medical certificate is not required for participation in Portugal. Participants are responsible for ensuring that they are medically fit to take part.

Participants must collect their race bib and participant pack at the Race Expo (FIL / Parque das Nações), on the dates and during the opening hours announced by the organiser for the 2027 Expo.

Road safety is supervised by the police. Professional medical teams, including the Portuguese Red Cross, provide assistance along the course and at the finish line, and may stop a participant for medical reasons. The stated time limits are 3 hours for the Half Marathon and 6 hours for the Marathon. After the sweep vehicle has passed, participants must comply with normal road traffic regulations.

Participants should be physically and mentally prepared for an endurance event, notwithstanding the medical assistance provided by the organiser.

FEMEDICA is the official medical services partner.

Registrations are final and non-transferable. Entry fees are non-refundable and transfers are not permitted. Anyone giving their bib to another person may be held responsible for accidents involving that person, and the organiser disclaims responsibility for such situations.

Disposable timing chips will be supplied with the race bib. Timing checkpoints will be placed at the start, along the course and at the finish. Participants who do not follow the prescribed course may be disqualified. Disposable chips may be kept as souvenirs.

Race bibs must remain clearly visible on the front of the torso throughout the race. They must not be folded, covered or altered, including sponsor information. Running without a valid bib is not permitted. Participants are encouraged to write relevant emergency medical information on the reverse of their bib.

Participants must use the timing chip supplied by the organiser according to the instructions provided. Participants may be disqualified for failing to use the chip correctly or using another participant’s chip.

Bib collection requires registration confirmation and an identity document. Bibs cannot be posted or collected on the day of the participant’s race.

The organiser disclaims responsibility for theft, loss, breakage or other damage to participants’ personal belongings, including items left in its care, to the extent permitted by applicable law. Participants are responsible for arranging insurance for these risks if desired.

Bicycles and motorised vehicles are strictly prohibited on the race course.

To the extent permitted by law, participants release the organiser, Running Portugal, FPA and AIMS, and their respective representatives, from liability for loss or injury arising from participation. Participants declare that, to the best of their knowledge, they have no condition that would make participation unsafe or inappropriate.

Participants grant Running Portugal and its authorised partners permission to use their name, likeness and biographical information in connection with images and coverage of the event, across media and territories, in accordance with applicable privacy and data-protection requirements.

Each participant receives a T-shirt. Finishers receive a medal and certificate. Awards are provided for the top five in each age category, together with an online certificate and finish-line video.

Participants must not knowingly use substances or methods prohibited under applicable anti-doping rules. Participants taking medication should consult their physician and check whether it contains prohibited substances.

The organiser reserves the right to reject a registration or exclude a participant from the event, subject to applicable law.

Participants acknowledge the risks of taking part in the event and agree to take reasonable precautions. They are responsible for arranging appropriate travel and medical insurance and for medical or surgical expenses incurred on their behalf, subject to applicable law.

The course may be changed, including substantially, if required by the competent public authorities. If the event date is changed, registration fees will not be refunded to participants unable or unwilling to attend on the new date, subject to applicable law.

Participants may wish to obtain their own insurance against flight, accommodation or other costs arising from a change of date. The organiser accepts no responsibility for such costs, subject to applicable law.

Participants are responsible for personal property brought to event venues.

Participants consent to identity checks and security screening, which may include inspection of personal belongings, before entering or leaving event venues, subject to applicable law.

Participants agree to comply with applicable laws and the rules of World Athletics (WA), the Portuguese Athletics Federation (FPA) and AIMS, and to follow reasonable instructions and decisions of authorised officials.

Participants agree to attend the official Race Expo in Lisbon on the announced 2027 dates to collect their T-shirt, timing chip, race bib and other race materials.
